Blog 2

I  picked the article because I was interested with the fact that this man made a language. Not only is it a language that is in the movie, but I had no idea that there was an actual language that this man created. What I found out that is fascinating is that there are people out there that are learning the Na'vi language.

The only way that I can see is that it affects the world is by there being a new language out there now. After watching this video it makes me wonder how complex the Na'vi language is.
I kind of want to see how hard it is to learn and how people learn  this language. Because I am sure there are not many places for this unique language to be taught at. It would be quite interesting.

  1. This guy deserves all the rewards! The hassle of creating a language comes with its difficulties especially when developing the grammar rules! I loved how he mentioned circumfixes in his language. Pretty cool how we just talked about that in class the other day. This video just goes to show how, with dedication, we can create languages on our own or even revive languages. Although I feel like this guy did too much with creating a language for just a movie, he makes a good point as it being a factor in bringing people together to build something truly fascinating!

  2. How does one even come up with a language? I feel like it would be super difficult to do so considering how much you have to invent (ie grammar, words themselves, particles). So major props to the dudes who have invented languages for a movie like LOTR or in this case, Avatar.

  3. This guy says he is surprised at the dedication of those learning the language but what about him? I think it took way more dedication to invent a new language just for a movie. It reminds me of Klingon from Star Trek, but that has been around much longer so there are so many more people fluent in it by now. I wonder if this will yield similar results.
